Pipeline explosion not expected to have major impact on gas prices

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The pipeline explosion in Shelby County has many people worried about a spike in gas prices.
The good news, though, is experts believe it may not be all that bad.
"We might see a little bit of a bump but honestly, just a matter of a few cents per gallon," said Clay Ingram with AAA of Alabama.
Ingram says with the major Colonial Pipeline leak back in September, our state average increased about 14 cents a gallon. He believes this time, it shouldn't come close to that.
"They just announced it may be back in operation as early as Saturday. If that's the case, then we shouldn't have any extra added transportation cost added to the cost of our gasoline like we did in the leak situation. So that should help keep prices down," Ingram said. "I don't think it will be that much."
Ingram says central and south Alabama should be in an even better place when it comes to gasoline prices as we are on the good side of the pipeline.
No matter the impact, Ingram advises there are things you can do to save money at the pump.
He asks everyone not to panic and stock up, saying that could cause a shortage. He goes on to suggest you buy as little as you can during this time and conserve, combining errands and staying at home when possible.
Ingram says the less fuel we use, the fewer stations will run out.
He does advise that it's possible some stations will take advantage of the situation and increase prices. Ingram says the number one way to save and help with that price increase is to price shop.
