ACS Superintendent reacts to Bentley's comment on state school system

AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Governor Robert Bentley's statement about how the state's school system "sucks" is not sitting well with educators around the state.
Auburn City Schools Superintendent Dr. Karen DeLano is just one of the educators speaking out about her disappointment regarding his comments.
Deflating, insulting, and demoralizing are just three of the words Dr. DeLano used in an email she sent to her entire staff to describe recent remarks made by Bentley. With a strong belief that Bentley's comments were misleading, she is focused on supporting ACS employees.
"Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but not entitled to their own facts. I don't think he represented the facts well as he talked about the 4th grade NAEP scores. If he will dig down deeper, there has been tremendous growth in the NAEP scores across the state over the last few years. They only leveled off during his terms," said Dr. DeLano. "You must speak up and stand up for what you do for your children, yourself, and fellow colleagues."
Dr. DeLano is working on a formal response that she plans to send to Bentley.
