MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - For years, the annual Capital City Parade was in early December, but for the past three years, it's served double-duty as a kickoff to the holiday season and the kickoff celebration for the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.

As we welcome App State and Toledo fans to the River Region, Montgomery parade-goers had a chance to share a holiday tradition with the out-of-state visitors. Christmas carols got the big band treatment, kids (and some adults) fought over candy, and the big man himself made an appearance!

"I just love the Christmas parade, Santa Clause is coming to town," said one parade-goer dancing to the band music.

As folks lined the streets and the floats took off from the Capitol, it's safe to say it's Christmas time in Montgomery again!

"Every year we make a point to come to the Montgomery Christmas Parade, it's perfect," said Montgomery resident Ann Fuller. "Gets the season started off perfectly, all the wonderful people that are here in Montgomery. It's just a great time to start the season."

For Vickie Parrish and her six grandchildren, the cooler temps, floats, and lights make for a time-honored Montgomery tradition along Dexter Avenue.

"I've been bringing them every year since the first one was born, it's a fun night," Parrish explained.

It's all setting the stage for the holiday season and the bowl game.

"I just think people are upbeat and have a lot of spirit this year, which is infectious, you can feel it here tonight," Fuller explained.
