City of Greenville agrees to buy Stabler Hospital

GREENVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Greenville Mayor Dexter McClendon has entered into an agreement to bring L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital to the community, according to a statement released Tuesday by his office. McClendon has signed the letter of intent to acquire the hospital.
According to the mayor's office, there is also an intent to form a Health Care Authority to own and operate the facility and they're currently looking at UAB Health Systems to fill that role.
The anticipated agreement is expected to be met around Sept. 1, and the completion of the transfer around Sept. 30.
L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital is an affiliate of Quarum Health Corporation, a corporation that handles "general acute care hospitals," according to the mayor's office. The company owns, leases or operates 34 affiliated hospitals with approximately 3,200 licensed beds.
