TROY, Ala. (WSFA) - An unnamed 16-year-old was arrested Friday morning in connection to last weekend’s on-campus shooting at Troy University.

The teen was taken into custody by the Troy University Police Department, City of Troy Police Department, and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Investigators did not provide a motive, but Troy University Police Chief George Beaudry said, “[t]he local knowledge and years of experience of the Troy Police Department team tipped the scales in our favor and helped us identify a suspect.”

The investigation started around 9:30 Saturday night, shortly after the end of the Troy football game against Nicholls State, when a female student was shot in the foot.

The victim was treated at an area hospital before being released.

The suspect is now being held at the Pike County Jail on a second-degree assault charge and for unlawful possession of a firearm.
