Sons of Confederate Veterans 'vehemently oppose' upcoming KKK rally in SC
The Sons of Confederate Veterans organization released a letter on Wednesday voicing their displeasure with a recent report that a North Carolina Chapter of the Ku Klux Klan has been granted a permit for a protest rally on the South Carolina Statehouse grounds.
According to the letter, the rally is schedule for July 18.
In the letter, the 30,000 members of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans say they vehemently oppose and denounce this hateful and divisive event. It goes on to say that the organization has a strictly enforced "hate" policy, and that anyone with ties to any racist organization or hate group is denied membership. Any member who develops ties with a racist organization is immediately expelled.
Some of the prohibited organizations are the Ku Klux Klan, American Nazi Party, the National Alliance, or any organization expressing racist ideals or violent overthrow [sic] of the United States government.
The Sons of the Confederate Veterans say they are a historic heritage organization, founded in 1896, and they claim it is their duty to protect and preserve the history and heritage of the Confederate soldier, of many ethnicities [sic].
The letter continues by saying their ancestor's Battle Flag makes no distinction about race, creed or religious affiliations. They stand unequivocally against hate groups for their desecration of those symbols that reflect the best in us; the Christian cross, the United States flag and the beloved Saint Andrew's cross.
The letter ends by saying that recent actions by opportunistic special interests have compounded the horrific actions of these hate groups by further dividing black and white southerns of good will and long standing brotherhood. The organization stands with all good-hearted Americans in strongly condemning "race haters" of any ilk.
