OZARK, AL (WSFA) - An Ozark man will spend the next 50 years in prison for brutal crimes he committed against a mother and her young daughter back in July 2014.

Late on the evening of July 24, 2014, David Pitts abducted a 30-year-old mother and her 8-year-old daughter at knife-point from their home in Ozark. What followed was a horrendous event in which Pitts took them to a secluded area off Alabama Hwy. 123 where he raped the mother and molested the child.

Pitts held his victims at both gun and knife-point through the night before forcing them to drive him to an undisclosed location where he was dropped off.

Both victims made it to an area fire station where they reported what happened to them. Pitts was ultimately arrested at a Florida hospital on July 28 of that year when the U.S. Marshal Service was given a tip about his location.

David Pitts was sentenced to serve 50 years for rape, 15 years for kidnapping, 20 years for burglary, 20 years for sexual abuse of a child, 15 years for theft, and 10 years for criminal mischief. While the total sentence runs 130 years, each will be served concurrently for a total of 50 years.
