AUBURN, AL (WSFA) - Bands from around the country have been offering support for the Gulf Shores High School Marching Band. Twelve members of the GSHSMB were injured Tuesday when an SUV plowed into the band during a Mardi Gras parade.

When the Auburn High School band learned of the tragic accident it immediately struck a chord.

"It was really scary because we have been in Parades before. That could have been us, that could have been one of my friends, and I can't imagine what those students are going through right now," said Julia Lawrence, AHS band member.

This situation hits very close to home because the band director for Gulf Shores High School is a former drum major of the Auburn High School Marching Band.

"We especially wanted him to know his Auburn family is here for him," said Rob Cothran, Dir. of Board.

Auburn band parents are raising money to help with replacement costs of the instruments damaged. Donations will be accepted at the Spring Concert this Saturday through March 10. If you are unable to donate at the concert, you can leave a donation in an envelope marked GSHSMB with Mr. Cothran, Mr. Wine or Ms. Marshall or mail them to the ABPA at PO Box 1965, Auburn, AL.
