DALLAS, TX (WSFA) - Former University of Alabama head football coach Gene Stallings has suffered a "minor stroke" according to tweets made Monday afternoon by former Auburn head football coach Pat Dye.

Stallings' wife, Ruth Ann, is said to be on her way to the hospital and said she can't confirm he's had a stroke until she speaks with his doctors.

Stallings and Dye were scheduled to appear Tuesday evening at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre in Montgomery for a Legendary Coaches Event.

Dye said Stallings was waiting on a flight at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to Huntsville when he suffered the stroke.

"He has been taken to the hospital, but is in good spirits," Dye tweeted.

The events in Huntsville and Montgomery will be rescheduled, the Auburn coach said, asking for people to "keep him & his family in your thoughts & prayers."

Stallings previously suffered a minor stroke in May and was told to rest for six weeks.

Stallings was the head coach of the Alabama football team from 1990 to 1996 and compiled a record of 70-16-1. He led the Crimson Tide to a national championship in 1992.
