DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - A Dothan student has been suspended from school and is facing charges after police say he threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot someone.

Monday, Dothan police arrested a 15-year-old student and charged him with making terrorist threats against Dothan High School.

Police say students reported that the teen told other students on the school bus that he was going to bring a gun to school to shoot someone. Over the weekend several social media posts were made by other students warning people of the threats.

These threats caused a major disruption of school activities. Police say a large number of students were either absent Monday or checked out of school out of fear.

A number of police and school officials were at the school Monday to ensure the safety of the students. The student that made the threat was brought in and suspended by school administrators.

After being questioned, the student was arrested and charged before being transported to the diversion center.

Police say an investigation into the incident is ongoing and no other information is available for release.
