MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Things are looking up for Alabama’s public schools.

The state department of education released the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) scores for this past school year, and State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey says he feels good about them.

According to Dr. Mackey, students across the board saw an improvement in reading, writing, comprehension and grammar proficiency levels.

“I was very exited to see that in level one, our lowest performance level in every grade, we saw fewer students,” he said. “It means we are pushing students to higher achievement across the state in every grade.

Some other scores released were the state’s ACT scores. Alabama is one of the few states that administers the ACT to all its students, and Dr. Mackey says the average score is holding steady at 17.3.
