Friday afternoon Millbrook crash turns fatal
MILLBROOK, Ala. (WSFA) - A Friday afternoon crash on Highway 14 has turned fatal, Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson is confirming.
Police and fire units responded to the area of Highway 14 and Grandview Road around 3:20 p.m. where they found a two-vehicle crash.
The driver and passenger of a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 were taken to an area hospital in life-threatening condition, the chief said, while the driver of a 2025 Ford Explorer, initially treated on the scene by paramedics, later went to a hospital by private vehicle.
On Saturday, the passenger of the Chevrolet, identified only as a 66-year-old Elmore woman, died of her injuries. The truck driver, a 73-year-old from Wetumpka, remains in critical but stable condition, the chief said.
The victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of family.
Johnson said eyewitnesses to the crash reported seeing the Chevrolet traveling westbound and the Explorer traveling eastbound along Highway 14 when the driver reportedly tried to make a left turn onto Grandview Road at the intersection. That’s when the Ford hit the Chevrolet.
Witnesses reported that traffic signals were green in both directions at the time of the crash, Johnson confirmed.
The chief said the Millbrook Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit has opened an investigation and will submit its findings to the Elmore County District Attorney’s Office for presentation to a grand jury for determination of any probable cause for criminal prosecution.
While the investigation is in its early stages, the chief said he’s not expecting there to be any criminal charges filed.
